Ten years ago this website consisted
of one page, with pictures and track-listings
for the recent singles, A Red Letter
Day and Somewhere. Ten years on, after
five redesigns, we are still here, offering
a wide range of Pet Shop Boys information.
I had just got access to the internet
in June 1997, when the web was still
technically in it’s infancy, and
my search for Pet Shop Boys brought
only a few results. Virtually, Dominet
(both now defunct) and the official
site were the only pages I could find.
My only other form of information was
from the fan club magazine, Literally,
and the occasional postcard that was
sent through the post.
The first site was called Originally
and was online for a year or so. As
my knowledge of web design slowly improved
I was able to add more pages, which
lead to a new site being built and given
a new name. The purpose of In Focus
was to focus on Pet Shop Boys in more
detail, hence the name.
In Focus featured a streaming Real
Audio jukebox as well as PetPals–
a page that allowed users to interact
and communicate with each other. Scans
of Chris Lowe’s flat from the
Elle Decoration magazine were also made
available on the site. In 1999 the domain
names chrislowe.co.uk and neiltennant.co.uk
were purchased, giving users easier
website addresses to remember.
In
2001 Euphoric was launched, using the
theme of the Release album. A year later,
the site you are currently looking at
was released. The news page was built
with a back-end admin facility, allowing
us to post news wherever we were.
Now, in 2007, Euphoric attracts around
37 million visitors every month. The
help and support of a handful of people
has assisted in the development of this
site. The news reporter(s), both past
and present (Catherine), have done or
are doing a fantastic job keeping the
fans up-to-date with the latest official
news, rumours, speculation and television
and radio appearances.
Work on the new site (this site) commenced
in early 2006. It was designed to have
a more simplistic and sophisicated feel
to it. As you may have noticed, the
new site has a whole lot more information.
Countless hours of research have gone
in to delivering the most accurate information
we could find.
A big thank you goes to every person
who has visited the site over the years.
Your feedback is always welcome.
