We attended the charity event ‘Can you bear it?’ at Heaven nightclub in London last night. The night was sold out and was absolutely fantastic. Pet Shop Boys performed for approximately 35 minutes and the set list was:

Go West
Rent (electro version)
Integral (Perfect Immaculate version)
Suburbia
West End girls (long version)
It’s a sin
My girl (with Suggs and Carl from Madness)
Being boring

Of course, the night was not just about seeing Pet Shop Boys perform live, it was about paying tribute in whatever way possible to Dainton Connell, the Boys’ long-term friend and colleague. The variety of house music was brilliant and my dancing shoes served me well. You can listen to the PSB demo of ‘My girl’ via the official site.

A per Catherine’s last post, Pet Shop Boys will be involved in the charity night, tonight at Heaven nightclub in London. The Boys’ are due on stage at midnight for a 30 minute set, and will be performing a song with Suggs and Carl from Madness.

We will try our best to post some photos of the night, but that all depends on how much alcohol is drunk…!

A benefit concert for Dainton Connell’s family is being held at London nightclub ‘Heaven’ on Friday May 2nd. The event will feature a live performance by the Pet Shop Boys, plus a huge selection of world-class DJs will be performing, including Tall Paul, Danny Rampling, Judge Jules, Brandon Block and PSB Chris Lowe (to name but a few). Twenty years ago to the day, Pet Shop Boys had the UK Christmas chart number one with ‘Always on my mind’, beating The Pogues’ annoying ‘Fairytale of New York’ track. You can watch the Top of the Pops performance below.

Pet Shop Boys performed their final concert of the Fundamental tour in Bucharest, Romania last Sunday. The Boys have travelled the world with the tour, and released the ‘Cubism’ DVD earlier this year. ‘Cubism’ was recorded in Mexico at the end of last year, and features the original setlist. For me, this has been the most enjoyable tour, having seen the show six times since June 2006. The Fundamental album and tour have certainly given the Boys the recognition they deserve.

In October, Dainton Connell, the Boys assistant and long term friend was killed in a car accident whilst in Russia. On Sunday the Boys paid their farewell tribute to Dainton by playing Being Boring at the end of the concert. On the large screen behind them was a video montage of Dainton. The video is below:

As Catherine reported last week, X Factor contestant Rhydian performed a highly camp version of ‘Go West’. To view the amusing but slightly tragic performance please click below.

‘Go West’ will reportedly be one of the songs featured on tonight’s ‘Disco’ X Factor. Dannii Minogue’s act Rhydian will be giving us his take on the PSB classic.

After its first week of release, Disco 4 entered the UK dance album chart at number 3, and the UK compilation chart at number 15.

Pet Shop Boys are part of the HMV ‘My Inspiration’ advertising campaign, and will be featured in the UK press and in tube stations in the next few weeks. DJ Billy Ray Martin quotes ‘Paninaro’ on her advertisement.

‘Go West’ features at number 3 in The Telegraph’s ‘Six Great Sporting Anthems’. It was adopted by Arsenal fans and the tune has since been heard numerous times at football matches including at last year’s World Cup. To read the full list go to The Telegraph.

It is with sadness to announce that Pet Shop Boys’ close friend and former security and personal assistant, Dainton “The Bear” Connell, was tragically killed in a car accident in Moscow in the early hours of this morning. Dainton was accompanying Chris, who had plans to DJ at a friend’s nightclub tonight.

The official site described Dainton as “a warm, kind, loveable friend, a huge Arsenal fan and a larger-than-life character, famous in North London and beyond. We are devasted by his sudden and tragic death and our thoughts and condolences are with his wife, Mandy, and their family.”
